Don’t Let the Haters Stop you

Over the last two weeks, I have received many, many emails and Tweets accusing me of being a racist because The Writer’s Craft Summit was “too white.”

I feel like anyone who watched the summit in even a cursory manner would know where I stand on diversity and inclusion.

That said, after two weeks of truly painful personal attacks, I do want to repeat this message:

Your voice matters.

Black, white, straight, gay, religious, atheist, rich, poor, physically handicapped, or mentally distressed… you matter and your story matters.

I believe in you, and I believe in your ability to share your story with the world.

When you do anything in a public setting, there are going to be haters. That is the nature of creating art.

But just because you can’t please everyone, doesn’t mean it’s not worth creating something new and putting it out into the world.

We need more stories coming from more unique voices.

That’s you.

It’s your voice we want to hear.

You have a story to tell, so tell it.

Don’t let anyone stop you.
