How would it impact your book sales if every time you wrote a blog post your email subscriber list grew by 100 people?

While you think about that, let me tell you about author Scott Bury.

I met Scott a couple of years ago at a book conference. We hit it off right away, and around this time last year, I wrote an article for his website, “Go Pro, or Go Home”.

A few months after that, I wrote a long and in-depth piece titled, “How to Forge Community, Make Connections, and Write Your Masterpiece”, which was published on the Smart Business Revolution blog.

Now what was going through my mind when I did this?

Why was I giving away great pieces of writing that could have served as excellent content on my own website?

Well, what I was doing is something called guest blogging.

Guest blogging is an excellent way to leverage other people’s audiences to grow your own.

Scott Bury is a Twitter dynamo who has continued to promote, via Twitter, on a weekly basis for almost a year now, the guest post that I wrote for him.

Grow an Email ListDo you think that has helped grow my email list? You bet it has!

Smart Business Revolution is run by John Corcoran, an ex-White House staffer, lawyer, and networking expert with a massive audience that I was able to get in front of thanks to my guest post.

Again, the guest post went up, and my email list grew.

If you are just getting started launching your author blog, or if you’re looking for a rapid way to grow the readership of your existing blog, you’re going to have a difficult time finding an easier and more cost effective method than guest blogging.

In fact, in a recent interview, John Corcoran went so far as to say that if he could go back and start over, he wouldn’t even bother starting his own blog. Instead, he would write nothing but guest posts.(BTW – John has an email list of over 10,000 subscribers, so the guy knows what he is talking about!) That’s how effective guest blogging can be for building a reputation and an audience.

If you would like to learn more about the value of guest blogging, how to identify what websites to pitch your posts to, and how to drive traffic from those sites back to your website and newsletter opt-in so that you can grow your audience, you will NOT want to miss the webinar I am hosting this week.
